Dharma and Meditation in Seattle

Intro Overview

Intro to Dharma and Meditation:

  • Mondays, 7 – 8:15pm

This 3 or 4-class series can be taken by itself as a general, stand alone introduction to Buddhism; it is also a segment of Bodhiheart’s year long course on Dharma that covers all of the basic teachings of Buddhism. And the class will be heavily visited by ‘old Bodhihearts’ who enjoy a lively discussion of the perennial insights iof the Dharma

We’ll talk about how to nurture the aspiration for simplicity and how to balance that practice with the constant pressure to spend our every moment in mindless pursuit of “more.” This teaching helps us navigate the flood of choices that we face every day, threatening to drown us in meaningless activities and consumerism. It offers a wisdom desperately lacking in our world today. Each multi-week series covers a different aspect of the Dharma teachings and is part of Bodhiheart’s year-long course on the path of awakening. We’ll explore topics that help us protect and value the self-care practice of daily meditation and reflection.

♦  Breathing meditation, contemplative meditation, Dharma talks and small group discussion

♦  For those who consider themselves Buddhist and for those who do not

♦  Bodhiheart’s foundation program and the heart of our community

♦  We recommend that, at a minimum, students attend this one-year series at least once; better, twice!

We’ll deepen our ability to work with painful emotions and moods, enhancing optimism, patience and even-mindedness in the face of habitual tendencies toward frustration and dissatisfaction.

Dharma practice enables us to bring all our experiences, both pleasant and unpleasant, into the path of compassion and provides a tool box of practical antidotes for dysfunctional thoughts and feelings. Meditation brings clarity and awareness to our mental states, body and feelings, enhancing control over our experiences and offering us a stable and peaceful happiness that radiates outward to benefit all those with whom we come in contact.
